How my love of horses began
Hello and welcome!
I’m Sara, the founder of Stable-antics.com.
My love of horses began many years ago, after a holiday in Northern Ireland; whilst my father took my elder brother and sister climbing mountains, my mother, wondering what to do with me, decided to approach a local riding school.
The following year, whilst in Cornwall, my passion for these beautiful animals grew big time, after spending all my time with a Palomino with the name Boomerang. From that point forward, my obsession escalated.
I’ve been involved in the equine world in some way or another ever since and have picked up some great experiences and knowledge along the way - I have learnt not only from other horsey people, noticing their stable management skills, (both the right and the wrong way) but also from my own experiences; growing up with my pony, doing various equine residential courses, pony clubs, completing various efficiency tests and now also from my present mare, who is continually teaching me still.
Over the years, they have both taught me the importance of loyalty, compassion and respect, and I really felt I needed to write down some of my experiences. So in 2010 I started this info site.
I have quite often come across people in the horsey world who are terrible ‘know it alls’ and who love to shout about how much they know about everything equine.
Over the course of my life, I have come to realize that these kinds of people are usually the ones who actually know the least. Most 4 legged friends I’ve ever met (and there’s been a few!) won’t engage with a person who is loud, aggressive and in your face. This instantly makes them suspicious of people in general, creating a bargy, hostile and difficult to manage horse. I believe in taking time, getting to know how their minds work, quietly and confidently. Therefore hopefully earning a trustful, gentle horse in return.
I would LOVE to hear other people’s experiences and the people they mix with at their yard. In other words this website not only provides information on do’s and don’ts in stable management, (some basic, and some more in depth), but also allows visitors to ‘vent’ or gossip in our tack room, offering advice from other visitors on the site.
Here we share ideas, answers, and experiences - whilst helping each other.
So come on in, and start enjoying networking with some of the most supportive, knowledgeable horsey people on the planet!
Coffee morning in the tack room!
